UKI POCKET SQUARE

I’ve known Demian ever since I can remember and have known Nadia for a good many years too.  When Nadia asked me to make a Ukrainian-style pocket square for Demian to wear on their wedding day, I was pretty chuffed to contribute in some way.

As a guide to colours, Nadia told me about their choice of Pantone Colour of the year 2016.

Usually pocket squares are made of satin which makes them thin and wont bulk out the pocket.  Keeping this in mind, I kept this item quite small as embroidery fabric is significantly more substantial than a silk satin.

I no longer remember where I found this design.  I chose a warm, pinky shade that in my mind could pass as traditional in Ukrainian designs and a pattern that was dainty and could fit onto a small square of fabric.

The finished product…

I couldn’t help myself – because I was getting outside the usual traditional Uki item and wanted to make a gift for them both, I invented a matching garter.
